In Sincelejo, Sucre, a large amount of women’s intimate photos and videos was reported to have been shared without authorization through at least one Telegram channel or community. Investigation underway over Telegram sharing
In Sincelejo, in Colombia’s Sucre department, authorities were alerted to the unauthorized spread of a large volume of women’s intimate photos and videos through at least one Telegram channel or community. Colombian outlets described the case as a serious episode of digital violence, while police and local officials said they have opened proceedings to identify the administrators and participants in the channel where the content allegedly circulated.
Reporting in Colombia points to different figures for the amount of material involved. El País Cali described a mass leak of more than 500 intimate videos, while other local outlets referred to more than 5,000 photos and videos. Those figures are being presented as estimates within an investigation that remains open, so there is no single confirmed total.
Victims and public reaction
According to Colombian news sites, the victims are mainly women from Sincelejo whose intimate content was allegedly obtained and shared on Telegram without permission. Noticias El Boom said the spread sparked alarm in the city, and that local women’s organizations, together with authorities, are urging formal reports of these events as digital violence and possible cybercrimes.
At the same time, a young lawyer who said she was a victim of the spread of her intimate video in the Telegram channel announced that she will take legal action against those who shared the material without her consent. According to her statement, she will rely on offenses covered under Colombian criminal law relating to violation of personal data and nonconsensual dissemination of intimate content.
Possible offenses under review
Criminal lawyer Francisco Bernate said in interviews with outlets including Minuto60 that those responsible could face charges for violation of personal data, unauthorized access to a computer system, and nonconsensual pornography, depending on how the acquisition and circulation of the material are proven.
For now, authorities are focused on identifying the people who administered and participated in the Telegram space where the intimate content allegedly was shared. The case has become both a criminal investigation and a report of digital violence that is still moving forward in Sincelejo.
